Douala IV Council Takes Bold Steps Towards Sustainable Mangrove Management

The Douala IV Council in Cameroon recently held a workshop focused on sustainable mangrove management. Mangroves are vital for flood control, climate resilience, and food security

The Douala IV Council in Cameroon recently held a workshop focused on sustainable mangrove management. Mangroves are vital for flood control, climate resilience, and food security, but are under threat from industrial activity and reliance on mangrove wood. Mayor Edward Herve Moby proposed measures like alternative cooking methods and reforestation to reduce this dependency. Collaboration with stakeholders, including local communities, companies, and NGOs, is seen as essential to balancing conservation with development. The council is working on an initiative called Generation Restoration - Douala IV Pilot City to conserve mangroves through local and international support.
