Chi Napoleon Forpah Appointed CEPA NGO Focal Point for the Ramsar Convention in Cameroon

The Watershed Task Group (WTG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Chi Napoleon Forpah, National Coordinator of WTG, as the NGO Focal Point for CEPA (Communication, Education, Participation and Awareness) under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, representing Cameroon.

This appointment was communicated by the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development, which officially transmitted the updated list of national focal points to the Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention in Switzerland.

As CEPA NGO Focal Point, Chi Napoleon Forpah will play an important role in strengthening collaboration between civil society organizations, local communities, and government institutions to promote awareness, education, and participation in the conservation and sustainable management of wetlands in Cameroon.

Wetlands, including mangrove ecosystems along the Wouri estuary and other coastal zones, are essential for biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, fisheries productivity, and community livelihoods. Strengthening communication and stakeholder engagement is therefore critical for ensuring the long-term protection of these ecosystems.

Through this role, WTG will further contribute to national and international efforts aimed at protecting wetlands while supporting community-based conservation initiatives. The appointment also recognizes WTG’s ongoing work in mangrove restoration, environmental education, and sustainable livelihood development in coastal communities.

WTG looks forward to working closely with government agencies, conservation partners, researchers, and local communities to advance the goals of the Ramsar Convention and enhance wetland conservation efforts across Cameroon.

This recognition reinforces the organization’s commitment to promoting inclusive environmental governance and strengthening public participation in the sustainable management of wetlands.
