The Municipal Council of Douala IV has officially approved the creation of a local consultation platform to support the implementation of the Generation Restoration project within the municipality.
The decision was adopted during the Municipal Council session held on 18 December 2024, presided over by the Mayor of Douala IV, Edouard Hervé Moby Mpah. The deliberation authorizes the establishment of a structured platform that will bring together key stakeholders to coordinate actions aimed at environmental restoration and sustainable natural resource management in the municipality.
The platform will serve as a collaborative space for local authorities, civil society organizations, community representatives, technical partners, and environmental experts to jointly implement the action plan of the Generation Restoration initiative. Its main objective is to strengthen coordination, promote inclusive decision-making, and ensure effective implementation of ecosystem restoration activities in Douala IV.
The initiative aligns with Cameroon’s broader commitments to environmental protection and ecosystem restoration, particularly within coastal and mangrove landscapes that play a critical role in climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and local livelihoods.
Organizations such as the Watershed Task Group, which actively works on mangrove restoration and community-based conservation in Douala IV, are expected to contribute technical expertise and community engagement to the platform’s activities.
By establishing this consultation mechanism, the Douala IV Sub-Divisional Council reinforces its commitment to participatory environmental governance and sustainable development. The platform is expected to facilitate coordinated restoration actions, strengthen partnerships, and mobilize stakeholders around the shared goal of restoring degraded ecosystems within the municipality.
This decision represents an important step toward strengthening local governance for ecosystem restoration and ensuring that communities play a central role in shaping the environmental future of Douala IV.
